Tisch School of the Arts has 4 winners and 10 nominees at the 2004 Tony Awards
Alumni and Faculty from Acting, Design, Drama, Dramatic Writing and Musical Theatre Writing Are Represented
It is well known that Assassins, Wicked and Avenue Q dominated the 2004 Tony Awards with wins numbering five, three and three respectively. But one of the untold stories from Broadway's annual celebration of itself was the impressive representation of winners and nominees who are also alumni or faculty of the Tisch School of the Arts. In all, the School had four winners and ten nominees in seven categories for the coveted American Theatre Wing honors.
"This was an outstanding year at the 2004 Tony awards for our alumni, graduates and faculty, and we applaud them for their talent and hard work," said Dean Mary Schmidt Campbell. "The Tisch winners and nominees represent a broad range of departments within the school, from acting, drama and dramatic writing to design and musical theatre writing. We can't think of a better validation of Tisch's professional conservatory approach to training than the recognition and honors bestowed by the industry itself.
"I also want to extend special congratulations to Susan Hilferty, chair of the Tisch School's Department of Design for Stage and Film, on her outstanding achievement in winning the Tony for Best Costume Design for Wicked. She is a true creative talent and a wonderful exemplar to her students and colleagues alike."
